Hello friends,
In keeping with my intention to share with you the authenticity of my personal experience,
the topic for this Summer's article came to me by "inspiration" and "meditation".
The theme is "Prayer" and I hope you see how it relates to what I am writing about...as
I see it, all movements toward health and greater understanding of ourselves is a form
of prayer. When we think, write, ask and visualize how we wish our life to unfold, we
are sending a sacred message to the universe - a prayer that is immediately answered -
as long as we choose to be aware of the form the answer might take.
The "inspiration" came in a conversation I was having with Sheila as we were discussing
a new complimentary health device,
that we have recently purchased. This amazing device
will be used to assist us during the intake portion of the Lifestyle Makeover and will help
Sheila & I detect energetic imbalances and health issues that may be occurring in an
individual which they may not be aware of.
Our discussion brought up a point that I have often been asked about and that is:
What do I feel is the reason someone should choose to see a Psychotherapist, rather
than choosing other medical alternatives, modalities and divination methods that can
also bring healing and answers to our questions about health, lifestyle, relationships,
mindset, etc...?
I understand that many people do not take to the idea of seeing a Psychotherapist because
of a pre-conception that this work is not for them (you need to have certain issues) or
that it indicates that they must be "broken" in some way and in need of "fixing". Then,
there is the idea that it must be covered by an insurance plan in order for them to take
the first step without the financial burden. This is a valid concern, however, it is true
that people are willing to invest in Yoga, Reiki, Workshops, Books, and Psychics in an effort
to find the answers they are looking for. Additionally, however, in order to facilitate
lasting change in one's life, I believe it is paramount for us to have a conscious
understanding of what we are dealing with in all of the four bodies (mental, emotional,
physical and spiritual). In my opinion, there is no better way to achieve that understanding
than by continually noticing our own experience (my definition of spirituality) and to make
conscious choices that are always in line with who we want to be. This can be done alone
with awareness and intuition, but I believe the key to success in staying on the our path
lies in the safety, trust and accountability that is only possible when one is able to have
an authentic exchange with a skilled professional who is neutral yet is always in OUR corner.
This person should always have our best interests at heart and be able to teach us the skills
we need to become self-empowered and move forward on our own. It need not be a lifetime
commitment, nor should it be a quick-fix approach.
The "meditation" aspect of this article came from a card I pulled from the OSHO deck
(my new favorite) - The card is titled PRAYER and tells a story about Moses.
The quote above is part of the reading from the card.

In prayer,

Happy Summer!
As I was out for a walk tonight I was overcome by the smell of dry crisp grass.
My memories quickly took me back to my childhood, where on the farm, we would spend
many summer hours out in the fields haying. My thoughts promptly took over and I
was lost in the realm of my past, reminiscing about my childhood and growing up on our farm.
My thoughts moved gently to my parents, who were good parents and I know for sure that they
loved all of us. I am the youngest of six children. One gift that I wish my parents would
have bestowed upon me as a child was the gift of encouragement, the gift of believing in
myself and the gift of individuality (I am also a twin, and to this day, 40 years later,
that's what we are referred to, "The Twins".) As adults, we can take responsibility for
ourselves and continue to grow and prosper in the area of personal development. But for
young teens, I do know that it is imperative that they understand without a doubt that
someone believes in them, someone will always be there to guide and support them; even
if we are not in agreement with some of the choices they may make; take the time to explore
their options with them. We should also allow our teenagers to learn that failures are not
really failures if we learn the lesson in the experience.
Today's children are our future, but today's teenager may be facing a bleak future when we
look at the statistics. According to Stats Canada 26% of Canadian children are overweight
or obese. "Our 'fattening environment' has been pegged as the main cause for North America'
epidemic of overweight and obesity. This is described as a combination of fast food, a lack
of fruit and vegetables in youths' diets, a lack of physical activity and what the Statistics
Canada report calls a major increase in 'screen time.'"
Teenage obesity has potentially serious physical and psychosocial consequences:
- There is a clear association between adolescent obesity and adolescent depression
- Obese teens are more likely to be victims or perpetrators of bullying
- Overweight and obese teens may suffer from low self-esteem. Body weight is a significant
contributor to children's self image, which in turn has important effects on their mental
health, sense of competence and control over life circumstances.
I personally grew up as a very overweight child and I know the effects it has on a child's
self-esteem, confidence and social skills. For this reason I am excited to announce that
Soul Spa has partnered up with Curves for Women in Richmond Hill, to offer an exclusive
week long journey of Self-Acceptance for young girls aged 13+. Classes begin on July 10
and will run throughout the summer.
Contact us if you would like more information.
...And although haying is a great form of exercise, I am happy that those experiences
are in my past.
Blessings and Gratitude to our farmers,Sheila

Act like or imagine the way You want to be
"As long as the mind can envision the fact that you can do something,
you can...
I visualize myself being there already - having achieved the goal already."
- Arnold Schwarzenegger
Most of us, at least until we learn to do it differently, create or attract events
and experiences in our life by default. Many of us wait for something to come our
way (winning the lottery or that prince/princess on a white horse) to make us feel
happier about our life or ourselves.
Being aware of our desires, preferences and choices helps us to be a proactive part
of the process of Creation. As we have identified our desires, we can mentally project
it by visualization or imagination.
Our thoughts create a vibration and frequency and by the Law of Attraction
(Soul Spa Bulletin #3 in our archive) it will be drawn to you.
The Universe does not know the difference between you actually experiencing or imagining
something, and it will give you more and more of the same.
Written Exercise: Identify something in your life that you are not very satisfied with.
Imagine that you are a Hollywood screenplay writer.
Write a short script on of how you would like it to be. Make it as descriptive and
vivid as you desire.
Thought Exercise: Imagine now, that you are the director of the movie that you have written. Throughout
your week visit that scene or script often in your mind, changing the voices, positions, scenery,
characters as you see fit. Try to make it as real and life-like as possible. Be amazed by the result!
